Do You Have a Sleep Disorder?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Sleep disorders are very common, especially in todays high-paced world. Many people don’t even know that they are suffering form a sleep disorder. If you find that you are tired throughout the day or if your friends constantly tell you that you look like you haven’t slept, then you might be suffering from a sleep disorder. Some people with sleep disorders have a difficult time remembering things and they have trouble paying attention. Others become very emotional or are quick to anger.

The best way to identify your particular sleep disorder is to pay attention to what problem you have with sleep. For instance, do you have trouble falling asleep or do you have trouble waking up in the morning? Do you have a difficult time staying awake throughout the day? Maybe you find yourself doing strange things in your sleep or perhaps it is the loud sleeping of your spouse that keeps up at night. You might be able to fall asleep but then wake up in the middle of the night, perhaps several times. These are all signs you suffer from a sleep disorder.

For those that can’t fall asleep, there are many possible reasons. Is it that you can’t fall asleep when you lay down to go to bed, or do you wake up in the middle of the night and then have trouble sleeping? If it’s trouble falling to sleep initially, then your symptom is named sleep latency. Sleep latency is indicative of several potential sleep disorders. You could suffer from one of several types of insomnia or delayed sleep phase disorder. You could also be experiencing restless leg syndrome. For those that find themselves waking up but then unable to sleep, the symptom is referred to as sleep fragmentation. Sleep fragmentation might be the result of sleep maintenance insomnia, advanced sleep phase disorder, or sleep maintenance insomnia. Each of these sleep disorders could be exacerbated by working swing shifts or by maintaining irregular hours of sleep.

If your symptoms involve constant tiredness throughout the day and you have trouble staying awake then you are probably suffering from a different sort of sleep disorder. You could have narcolepsy, especially if you seem to fall asleep uncontrollably and quickly, throughout the day.

Those with excessive sleep inertia find waking up in the morning very difficult. This could be the result of sleep apnea or delayed sleep phase disorder.

Other people have been told or somehow discovered that they do strange things in their sleep. They might be sleepwalkers or suffer from sleep terrors. There are other REM sleep behavior disorders that could be the cause. Most of these sleep disorders fall under the category of parasomnia.

If it is your partner that keeps you up, then they might be suffering from sleep apnea or snoring. It could also be restless leg syndrome that makes it difficult for you to sleep.

Once you know what your problem with sleep is, you should be on your way to pinpointing your specific disorder.

Save Time and Save Money, Order Fresh Lobsters Online

Friday, July 31st, 2009

If you grew up on the coast, you know the great memories that a fresh seafood dinner can bring. Whether a clam bake or a gumbo or even just some delicious fried fish, the family all came together for a great home cooked meal. It sounds like something you’d love to bring to your family, but if you don’t live on the coast, it can be impossible to find fresh seafood in the store. And even when you do, it’s usually a budget buster. It doesn’t have to be though. Why not try ordering some fresh lobsters online?

If you live in a city away from the coast, you already know how hard it can be to get fresh seafood. It seems silly to even drive to the store when they might not have any fresh lobsters at all. And anyway, when you think of fresh, you think of a lobster that’s right off of a boat. At the grocery store, fresh simply means that the poor creature has been kept alive for the week or two since it’s been caught, and who knows how long it’s actually been in that tank. Who wants to pay premium for that?

hen you really want fresh lobsters, it’s time to buy online. No more waiting for the grocery store to get lobsters from their suppliers, who’ve had them on a truck for who knows how long. Instead, they’re packaged fresh off of the boat, and shipped overnight to you, no middlemen, just the fisherman to your door. That way you know that they’ll be fresh when you prepare them, and fresh when your family eats them, which is a great guarantee indeed.

When you buy fresh lobsters online, not only will you be getting the highest quality lobsters available, you’ll also be saving money. Instead of having to pay the grocery store markup that comes from shipping, store fees, and other expenses, you’re cutting out the middleman. This means that you’ll be able to enjoy quality fresh lobster more often, because of the cost savings. It’s a great thing to be able to share something you enjoy so much with your family without busting your wallet!

When you’re able to order your own fresh lobsters online, a world of possibilities for entertaining comes alive. Why not steam lobsters for your friends and family? You’ll have your choice of sizes, from one to three pounds, meaning that everyone can have their own, or there can be one huge lobster to share. Now that it’s getting cold outside, why not try a creamy and rich lobster bisque to warm up your loved ones?

Fresh lobsters are a great way to share delicious seafood with your family. And with online ordering, you’ll be able to do so at a fraction of the cost of a grocery store, without sacrificing any freshness.

Today’s Modern Bed Linens Means More Choices

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Bed linen, more specifically, cotton bed linens have undoubtedly become the rage in today’s bedrooms.  You can get thread counts ranging from 180 all the way up to a thousand nowadays. Most people think that thread counts are the only legitimate way to judge how good sheet is going to be. Not true.

You also need to consider how long the thread is to really determine the strength and durability of your bed linen. What you want to look for is a longer thread, or fiber to start with.  You’ll get that when you look for 100% to your Egyptian cotton, followed by supima or Pima cotton which are close seconds as far as fiber length.

The longer the fiber the longer and stronger the resultant yarns are — the stronger the fiber and fabric in your sheets on the bed will be.  Another thing to think about is whether it’s one ply or two ply.  Two ply means that the threads have been separated and woven back together in order for the manufacturer to sell it at a higher thread count than it would normally be.

You’ll be able to choose from not just your typical, traditional white and ivory colors.  Now you have at your disposal and full and lush color palette to match any bedroom to core you can imagine.  Pearl, copper, lavender, sage, and sand are typical color options for bed linens these days.  You’ll also find geometric patterns and stripes from thin to wide, and prints of every variety and type — from animal designs to bold 60s flowery prints — you’ll find it all in today’s bed linens, pillowcases and duvet covers.

PC Tools Internet Security Free Trial

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

PC Tools Internet Security is an interesting package. In spite of its older brother spyware doctor’s status, the fact is it is a seldom sought after package. This is a surprise. PC Tools Internet Security Software is built from the same technology that gives us PC Tools spyware doctor and PC Tools antivirus. Plus this package has spam defense as well.

I began to wonder if it might be price that is keeping it from wide spread adoption. After checking on pricing, $59.95 (as of 9/26/08) is a reasonable price. The only bad thing I found in reviews was its lack of heuristic scanning.

Heuristic scanning: “A heuristic scan is used to discover new, unknown viruses in your systems that have not yet been identified. Only some antiviruses can do this type of scan, the majority are only able to discover known viruses.” This doesn’t seem to be the reason either.

I will chalk it up to a lack of marketing. The reason I say this is because I see heuristic scan capability incorporated in the latest release. Most importantly, I found out that most customers and potential customers are still looking for their antivirus and firewall as separate packages.

Bob Metcalfe, the person attributed as the Inventor of the Internet exemplifies what choosing what is not so popular….”And I turned around to look at these 10, 12 AT&T suits, and they were all laughing. And it was in that moment that AT&T became my bte noire, because I realized in that moment that these SOBs were rooting against me. To this day, I still cringe at the mention of AT&T. That’s why my cell phone is a T-Mobile. The rest of my family uses AT&T, but I refuse .”

Granted, choosing PC Tools Internet Security will not be that dramatic but it could prove to be a good internet security application for your computer.

A Brief History of Renaissance Clothing

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

During the Renaissance, the wealthier and more prosperous members of a city, town or region often wore elaborate and highly decorated Renaissance clothing that was hand crafted from a variety of rich and expensive fabrics and finishes. In fact, the richer a family was the more expensive and ornate their Renaissance clothing was, as this was one of the primary ways of indicating stature and wealth during the Renaissance period.

Interestingly enough, as there was little opportunity for financial investment, the Renaissance clothing of the ruling classes was not only seen as indication of wealth, but a form of investment. If a family were to require money in the future, the clothing could be resold. The fabrics that the wealthy and their designers favored during the Renaissance were fabrics that were the hardest to produce and therefore the most expensive and exclusive. This included cotton, velvet, silk and brocade. At the time, each of these was labor intensive and/or produced a great distance away from Western Europe, such as in Egypt for cotton. Rich finishes such as ribbons, seed pearls and golden/silver thread were also liberally embroidered on the Renaissance clothing of the day.

During the period Medieval clothing for women ebbed and flowed from simpler pieces, such as underskirts, bodices and robes, to more complex clothing that included skirts, underskirts, bodices, over bodices, hoops and collars. Men’s Renaissance clothing on the other hand, was often designed to accentuate the body shape, providing them with a more rounded look. Made out of the same rich colors and fabrics, their renaissance clothing often included padded shoulders and breeches, as well as hats, embellished with the same embroidery and fancy finishes that completed the Renaissance dresses for women.

Type 2 Diabetes – How to Stabilize Your Blood Sugar Levels!

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Sufferers of type 2 diabetes at times walk a fine line between hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia simply because their bodies cannot process blood sugars as effectively and efficiently as non-diabetics. However, don’t despair regarding this because balanced blood sugar levels can be achieved although, it must be emphasized, it will still be relatively elevated when compared with non-diabetic levels.

Therefore, you must consult with your health care provider to determine the target blood glucose range appropriate for you.

Three of the most basic steps to help you include:

1: With the aid of your individual glucose meter, regular blood sugar level testing at times agreed with your health care provider, will help you determine the pattern with which your levels rise and fall. Of course your activities, foods consumed and time of day will make a difference. Don’t forget issues like stress, depression, pain, poor mobility and illness come into play as well.

As soon as you have determined your personal pattern your diabetes management plans will be easier to adapt to your needs. In other words, you can then make the vital changes to your lifestyle to stabilize your blood sugars.

2: Various conditions, like type 2 diabetes, send you warning signals when something is not quite right. You must learn to listen to your “body talk” … Your body will continuously show you but you must be aware of the symptoms of high or low blood sugars. For examples an unquenchable thirst, frequent urination and extreme tiredness are all signs your levels are high. If you are taking insulin and maybe missed a meal, you would exhibit signs of a “hypo” and they could include pale sweaty skin, palpitations, confusion, slurred speech or maybe a headache.

When you know your signs and symptoms take immediate action, i.E. Monitor your blood sugar levels, inject insulin, take glucose tablets, and/or eat food. Don’t wait for your symptoms to go away as your capacity to remedy the situation may fade quickly.

3: Even after you give your type 2 diabetes your complete attention, blood sugar levels can be unpredictable. So it is really essential for you to know the level you should be aiming for. Most people who have diabetes should aim for:

* an HbA1c of less than 7 per cent * a pre-meal blood glucose level of 4 to 6mmol/l (72 to 108 mg/dl) or 3.5 to 6mmol/l (63 to 108 mg/dl) if you are not taking insulin or diabetic medications * a level of 4 to 8 mmol/l (72 to 144 mg/dl) measured two hours following your meal.

Don’t overlook to share with your relatives and friends the steps you would like them to take if you are unable to help yourself. Put up your health care provider’s telephone number in conspicuous places so they can contact him when emergency situations occur.

By keeping your blood sugar levels in a healthy range you can slash your risk of developing complications and live a long and healthy life even with type 2 diabetes.

Running consistently high blood sugar levels when you have type 2 diabetes increases your risk of developing complications such as heart problems, stroke, macular degeneration and other circulatory conditions, plus recurrent infections.

Are You Suffering From A Mouth Yeast Infection

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

When you’ve been taking antibiotics for an extended period of time, have a weakened immune system or frequent fungal infections, you may end up with a mouth yeast infection. These oral yeast infections are caused by the yeast like fungi Candida. Candida is found actively in everyone’s mouth but normally functioning immune systems break the fungi down and do not allow the infection to grow.

Thrush is most common in young babies-especially while they are still breast feeding, HIV/AIDS patients, elderly people and cancer patients who have been undergoing treatment with chemotherapy or radiation therapy. These people all have weakened or compromised immune systems that seem to make them more susceptible than others.

Anyone who is suffering from a compromised immune system can get oral thrush. HIV/AIDS patients who have weak immune systems often suffer from thrush. The completely healthy human body fights off these thrush infections and most people have no idea that these types of infections even exist. Also at risk of getting thrush infections are those with type I and type II diabetes.

Oral thrush presents itself as a white, creamy deposit inside the mouth and throat. These white patches may be very small, appearing as tiny dots or the patches may be considerably larger, affecting the entire mouth of a patient. These white patches often appear as a thick coating on the tongue, sometimes at the back of the mouth, sometimes on the sides and bottom of the tongue.

These white spots often have the visual appearance of cottage cheese. They can grow quickly and spread from one side of the mouth to the other and can also spread back into the mouth. When the Candida takes over an individual’s entire mouth, it is not uncommon to find the tonsils also infected. This can quickly spread down the back of the throat and into the digestive tract and stomach.

When a thrush infection spreads past the mouth, it becomes harder and harder to control and cure. Thrush infections can be quite painful. Managing thrush pain can be difficult as many physicians don’t like to give out narcotic pain medicine. Until you’ve actually experience a severe case of thrush, you have absolutely no idea just how bad it can be.

It’s pretty easy to figure out whether or not someone has thrush. Usually, a quick glance by your physician at the doctor’s office will render a verdict. When your doctor suspects a severe or chronic case of thrush, he may order a lab test. They’ll gently swab one of the affected areas and send the culture in for inspection. You may have a case of thrush that has affected your entire digestive tract. This requires immediate attention and may require an endoscopy to determine the full extent of the infection.

If you’ve got a mouth yeast infection, you may not be able to function very well. Get the help of your doctor or other medical professional so that you can rid yourself of the infection quickly. Given time, the infection will only worsen. Get a round of anti-fungal medication and get rid of your thrush, quickly.

How Do Pacemakers Work?,Understanding How An Artificial Pacemaker Works

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

While a heart pacemaker should not be confused with the natural pacemaker of the heart, an artificial pacemaker is a medical device which serves to help people who suffer from heart problems. Many people are unaware as to how a pacemaker works. It is a fairly simple device that works by using electrical currents which come into contact with the muscles of the heart by way of electrodes. This in turn helps to regulate the beating of the heart.

The purpose of a pacemaker is to make sure that the heart is beating at a proper, healthy rate. These devices are used if the heart’s natural ability to regulate its beats is not working correctly. They may also be used if the electrical conduction of the heart is blocked in some way.

For more severe cases, technology has made it possible to combine a defibrillator into the electronic heart pacemaker unit. Modern medical and technological advances have also allowed pacemakers to be programmed externally by a specialist.

While experiments were taking place into pacemakers as far back as 1889, it was not until 1958 that an artificial and implantable pacemaker was first used. The first patient to use the device was Arne Larson who used twenty-two such apparatuses over the course of his life.

Implantable pacemakers are inserted into the patient by way of a straightforward surgery process. A local anesthetic is always used and antibiotics are provided afterwards to prevent any infection that could be caused as an effect of the operation. With an incision made just below the left collar bone, the pacemaker is inserted into the body and the leads are wired up to the heart with the use of a fluoroscope to make sure everything is going into the right place.

A person who lives with an artificial heart pacemaker is usually required to visit the doctor once in a while so that the doctor can see that everything is working correctly and that the patient is remaining healthy.

Adult Dyslexia Test: the 1st Step in Overcoming Dyslexia

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Dyslexia seems to be caused by faulty communication between the eyes and the brain; the eyes send the signals but the brain does not interpret these signals correctly. As a result, dyslexics (people with dyslexia) see things differently. Dyslexics need special training to be able to interpret what they see in ways that let them extract the necessary info to be able to interpret them correctly.

The first sign of dyslexia is often difficulty in reading. In reading you need to see the letters clearly and then interpret these letters into words and the words into sounds and thoughts/ideas. Various types of dyslexia can complicate this process of perception and translation

The word “dyslexia” consists of “dys” – not working, as in “dysfunctional” and “lexia” – as in “lexicon” a dictionary of words or terms. This origin comes from the often observed problem that those with dyslexia have with reading.

Approximately 1 person in every 10 has some type of dyslexia, to some degree.

There are symptoms of dyslexia that many educators are trained to look for, such as difficulty with reading aloud. In the final analysis there is only one way to detect/prove the presence of dyslexia and measure its severity.

That is by way of professional testing for dyslexia.

In the last year, in a new development, an excellent accredited dyslexia test has become available online.

You can now get a full dyslexia assessment made over the Internet by taking a full adult dyslexia test at home, online.

The entire test takes a little over half an hour. Also, it’s very economical; costs less than a visit to your Doctor!

There are literally millions of adult dyslexics that are completely unaware that many of their problems could be solved by dyslexia treatment. They can be easily helped once identified. Click on any link in this blog posting to get full information…

Disclaimer: This posting is based on information freely available in the popular press and medical journals that deal with dyslexia. How To Buy Wonderful Personalized Gifts For Your Loved Ones

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

I am normally a very giving person. I like to give up a lot of my time, energy and passion to nearly everything that I do. But there is one thing that I am not very good at and that is buying gifts for other people, family members, and friends. I have a number of family members and friends are currently in need of different types of gift items. And I do not have any idea what to get any of them. All I know is that I would like to get them a personalized gift of some sort. I think personalized gifts or good and valuable because they showed that the person trying to give really cared about the recipient.

In my quest for different types of gifts. I will be needing graduation gifts, engagement gifts, and even Irish gifts. I have some friends who lives in Ireland that are having a birthday party. And I like to send them a few personalized Irish gift item as well. I also have some friends who are retiring so a retirement gifts is also required.

After spending a few hours on different types of personalized gifts websites, I have at least a few ideas of the types of gifts that I want to buy. You can choose all types of engagement gifts or even other different gifts and have them either engraved, embroidered or even laser etched. This way the gifts will have their name, date or even their initials on them. I think everyone likes to have personalized gift items because it shows everyone else that the thing that they have received its actually theirs.
